Softball is very simple. I can say this because I know a lot about the game and I enjoy attending the games as well. I was responsible for crowd control, and I helped run the music for each player while the two others took control of the stats, announcing, and the scoreboard. I was in charge of playing the National Anthem. I was in charge of playing music for warm up, and in between innings. Also, each player had a song of choice for when they walked up to the plate. This game was the breast cancer awareness game and the Tiffin team wore pink jerseys. This was a double header game. Tiffin won the first game 5-3. Tiffin won the second game 3-2 after playing extras innings making it an 8 inning game.

This invitation was held at the Mohawk Country Club in Tiffin, Ohio. The actual invitational was Sunday and Monday of April 12th and 13th, but on April 11th there was prepping for the players. On April 11th the players had a practice round. Then on April 12th they had the round 1 of shotgun. April 13th was round 2. The day started with setting up the driving range. We had to set up the signs and pick up golf balls. After that was all set we had to set the actual golf course with snacks and drinks for the players. At the end of the day we collected scorecards and posted the scores. Throughout the whole day we had to go around and attend to players needs. Rode golf carts to make sure everything is in line and that everything is where it needed to be. At the end of the day we had to take everything down and clear up the course.
Today, I came in to meet with Brittany. I introduced myself, my major, and what exactly I was there for. She had asked me what I was looking for and I basically told her anything to do with game management to get my hours that it did not matter what it was. So, she had me right then and there get around her flags, and signs on top of getting the scorecards ready. She explained to me that I will be doing set up and tear done then little things in between. Then at the end she would teach me how to do the scores and record them. She showed me a little bit there but would show me more after the golf outing.
I went to a golf outing not knowing a thing about golf. I can say now, though, that I now know a little bit about golf, but I am by no means a professional. I had to help with set up and tear down. All the flags needed to be placed. Signs needed to be put out and then had to pick up golf balls in the driving range. It was a shotgun outing. It was a lot of walking and driving a golf cart. There was some down time for me, but I was able to experience a golf outing which I thought was neat..
I called Darby and asked him if there was anything else that needs to be done due to not having all my hours yet and he told me to come in that he has some stuff I can do around there along with talking about possible games. First we talked about the women's Golf outing. He told me it was a shot gun tournament that, that might be something to look into but would have to talk to the women's golf coach, Brittany. Then we talked about how the softball coach needed help with some thing's if I wanted to get more hours. Then after he told me that, he had me help him move some things around in the golf building, and go through some paper work from the golfers. I moved some tables, we put the ping pong table in a different spot and we also played a game of ping pong for our fun activity. I also ended up organizing his flags, signs, and his closet that was a complete mess. ha.
These two games were a big deal. Darby was unable to make it therefore it was up to us to get their early. We had to make sure referees knew where to go for their locker room then we had to make sure they got paid. Also, We had to get the Brief case and make sure tickets were out and clickers were out so people can count fans. We also had to go into the concession stand and make sure they had all their stuff to get the concession ready. During half time we had to also help run half time shows. Then at the end we had to make sure the brief case was in the right spot, concession stand door was locked and then we were good to go. Tiffin men lost 77-59 Tiffin women lost 81-75.
This was a MUST meet. He told me last game that he was not going to be able to make it for the Ohio Dominican game. Therefore, he needed to sit down and talk to us for what will be going on. He simply told us that we are the assistant athletic director for that game. We had to be there super early to start getting things together but first he had to show us where he kept the brief case that had the tickets, money, checks, and couple other little things. Then he told us we needed to show the referees their locker room and make sure we pay them and have to be super nice to them because they do so much for us. He then said we had to get the table out for the ticket booth as well as get the things around for the halftime show for the dance team. He also had to show us where to get things, pop, snacks, etc. for the V.I.P room. We then just basically talked about how we needed to be prepared to answer peoples questions, get basketballs out, help the coaches if they need anything. We then helped him get some papers organized in his office. Then that was the end of our meeting.
Even though it was Valentines day, we still went on to interning at a basketball game. We got the privilege to help and run half time shows. We held a shoot out at the half time show for the men's game. At this shoot out someone has the chance to make a layup, free throw, and a three pointer. Whom ever made them all in first was the winner. My job was to rebound the ball for players as the other intern rebounded for the opposite player. For the half time show for the women's game we held a pizza eating contest. Both winners received a gift card to the Tiffin University bookstore. It was entertaining and we got to present a small award for the winner. We also held the rope, which preventing people with wet shoes from walking onto the court, that day as well. Also, we set up the ticket stand. Tiffin men lost 68-58. Tiffin women lost 64-63.
